Architectural Photography & Videography FAQ
I’m an architectural and commercial photographer and videographer based in Marin County, California, working throughout the Bay Area and on select projects across California and the western U.S. Below are answers to common questions about my work, approach, and process. If you don’t see your question here, feel free to reach out.
Services & Scope
What type of photography do you specialize in?
I specialize in architectural, interior, multifamily, and commercial photography. Most projects are created for architects, developers, interior designers, and commercial real estate teams who need imagery for marketing, leasing, portfolios, and long-term brand use.
Do you provide both photography and videography for architectural projects?
Yes. I offer both photography and videography for architectural and commercial projects. Providing both services allows for a cohesive visual approach across still imagery and motion, and simplifies coordination for larger or multi-phase projects.
Do you offer drone and aerial photography?
Yes. I am FAA Part 107 certified and provide licensed drone photography and videography for architectural, commercial, and multifamily projects. Aerial imagery is typically used to show site context, scale, and the relationship between a project and its surroundings, subject to airspace and local regulations.
What types of clients do you typically work with?
I regularly work with architects, interior designers, developers, property owners, and commercial real estate teams. Many projects are photographed with long-term use in mind rather than short-term listing needs.
Location & Travel
Where are you based?
I’m based in Marin County, California.
Do you work throughout the Bay Area?
Yes. I frequently photograph projects in Marin County, San Francisco, Oakland, the East Bay, Santa Clara County, and surrounding Bay Area communities. Being local allows for efficient planning, scouting, and coordination when needed.
Do you travel for projects outside the Bay Area?
Yes. I’m available for projects throughout California and the western U.S., including Southern California and the Pacific Northwest, depending on project scope and timeline.
Approach & Style
How would you describe your photographic style?
My work is architectural and editorial in approach. I focus on natural light, thoughtful composition, and creating images that feel true to the space rather than overly staged or dramatic.
How do you approach lighting in interior spaces?
I typically photograph interiors using available light and a natural lighting approach. In some cases, lights may be turned on if it supports the space or aligns with the client’s goals. Lighting decisions are always made intentionally and in response to the architecture and design.
Do you include people in architectural photographs?
When people are included, they are used selectively to establish scale and quiet presence. The emphasis remains on the architecture and how the space is meant to be experienced.
Process & Planning
How far in advance should a shoot be scheduled?
For larger commercial or multifamily projects, booking a few weeks in advance is ideal. This allows time for planning, coordination, and aligning on priorities. Smaller projects may be scheduled with shorter notice depending on availability.
Do you help plan and coordinate the shoot?
Yes. I work closely with clients ahead of time to understand access, timing, priorities, and intended usage. This planning helps ensure the shoot runs smoothly and the final imagery aligns with how it will be used.
What should clients prepare before a shoot?
Preparation typically includes confirming access, understanding lighting systems, coordinating any styling, and identifying priority spaces or deadlines. I provide guidance ahead of each shoot so expectations are clear.
Usage & Licensing
How are images licensed?
Images are licensed based on intended use, such as website, social media, marketing, or print. Licensing terms are outlined clearly before each project so there are no surprises.
Can images be used across multiple platforms?
Yes. Most licenses include use across web, social, and marketing platforms. Expanded or third-party usage can be discussed depending on the project and distribution needs.
Do you offer third-party image licensing?
Yes. Third-party licensing is available for architects, designers, or collaborators who were not the original commissioning client. Licensing is handled on a per-image basis.
If you have a project in mind or questions specific to your space, feel free to get in touch to discuss details.
